May CAY Meeting
SOS May 2008 Recap
Here’s a brief overview of what we discussed:
Updates:
Concrete - park will be 3 inches poured concrete and elevated structure will be poured concrete with concrete street like features. Skate pad will be approx 120 x 150. This gives us amazing potential to create a large and amazing skatepark. Modular building with be 840 sq feet. (idea - make modular bldg look like a caboose/train and call it the Rail Trail Express Concessions!!??)
Children’s Park Location - probably at trailhead. Will add more parking and Palmetto Conservation would like to see a shelter for Farmer’s market and kid’s parties. Palmetto Conservation agreed to let city use funds to help with the connector. This was impt because we need all our money to go towards skate equipment.
Time Frame - Bids should be out on the street now and then it is a 2 week period.
CAY Fundraising:
Goal - We would like to go for the last push for funds so that we start with the most equipment possible in Phase 1.
Plan to Raise $ - We discussed companies and individuals who might be interested in naming opportunities for the park. We have some prospects and will pursue. Help us here with your ideas and contacts.
We talked about getting the local colleges and schools more involved.
Other:
- GREAT NEWS - we got $10,000 grant money from Spartanburg Regional Foundation in the most competitive grant year ever. All the amazing community support has been phenomenal.
- ask city to make a bus stop at skatepark to accommodate kids from other sections of town. give kids a reason to ride!
